When You’re Down And Low…
Something down and low arrives and picks you right up again!
Just yesterday I ordered 8 Elemental Designs 7Kv.2 subwoofers. No, they aren’t all for me! We did a group buy for the guys at Portsmouth and Southampton Mini Owners’ Club. I wasn’t expecting them to arrive until Thursday or Friday and then a knock at the door and guess what! Well, I’ll let the pictures do the talking (with a bit of explanation of course!)
Da box as it arrived. With 8 subwoofers in, even small ones, it was bloody heavy!
Of course, the dogs just had to inspect. Cooper then decided that it was his box and I wasn’t allowed near it. Guess what pal! You lose!
Inside the larger box was 8 of these smaller boxes. I have only opened one, I thought I would leave the rest for their new owners!
In all its glory! This is a dual 2 ohm speaker, of which I have bought two for me and with the wiring that’s shown here I will be able to run them bridged at 2 ohms. Awesome!
These are the speaker connectors that are on the sub. I haven’t seen anything like this style before. They look as if they will (just) accept 12 gauge cable but I will have to try it and find out.
I have a little work to do before I can install them in the car though. They will be installed under the rear seat, initially running infinite baffle, with boxes made for them later. That way I can assess their performance in both situations and make an informed recommendation to other Mini owners.
As a sneak preview though, I can pretty much guess that they will be 100% better in a sealed box. I might (in the future) even try them in a ported box if there’s enough room under the seats.
