I have a new project. Well, I will have a new project!

Once I have sold my MG (hopefully Friday!), the boss (wife) says that I can take delivery of (and pay for) a 1981 Mini Clubman Estate. It’s in yellow at the moment and only needs a little bit of work…

I hasn’t cost me much money, yet, but there will be lots of labour before the car is ready for the road. Basics I know right now that it will need include:

  • Rear subframe - inspect/replace
  • Rear valance - replace
  • Rear closer corners - replace
  • Rear doors - repair/replace
  • Rear wheel arches - repair
  • Rear wiring loom - replace (missing)
  • Drivers side front wing - patch small hole.
  • front foot wells - repair/replace
  • Blind weld in rear door aperture
  • Front valance - ripped apart when towing
  • Bare metal respray - eventually!
  • Replace carb - missing
  • Replace solenoid - missing
  • Rear bumpers - repair/replace
  • Not much eh! My welding skills could be quoted as “improver” and spraying skills as “beginner”. I am ready for the challenge though and have good friends to help and advise when necessary *looks around*!

I will be photographing progress regularly and my aim is to have the car on the road ready for Brooklands Mini Day which I believe is 09 March 2008.

These images are from when I viewed the car in its current location in the New Forest:

    Wish me luck!
