Project Clubby
I have a new project. Well, I will have a new project!
Once I have sold my MG (hopefully Friday!), the boss (wife) says that I can take delivery of (and pay for) a 1981 Mini Clubman Estate. It’s in yellow at the moment and only needs a little bit of work…
I hasn’t cost me much money, yet, but there will be lots of labour before the car is ready for the road. Basics I know right now that it will need include:
- Rear subframe - inspect/replace
- Rear valance - replace
- Rear closer corners - replace
- Rear doors - repair/replace
- Rear wheel arches - repair
- Rear wiring loom - replace (missing)
- Drivers side front wing - patch small hole.
- front foot wells - repair/replace
- Blind weld in rear door aperture
- Front valance - ripped apart when towing
- Bare metal respray - eventually!
- Replace carb - missing
- Replace solenoid - missing
- Rear bumpers - repair/replace
Not much eh! My welding skills could be quoted as “improver” and spraying skills as “beginner”. I am ready for the challenge though and have good friends to help and advise when necessary *looks around*!
I will be photographing progress regularly and my aim is to have the car on the road ready for Brooklands Mini Day which I believe is 09 March 2008.
These images are from when I viewed the car in its current location in the New Forest:
Wish me luck!

“Maybe one day his efforts will be rewarded either financially or sexually.”
Is that based on knowledge? As I may have to re-negotiate with the wife (mine not yours)
