Classic Mini Stage One Kit
Daze has a great write up about what to purchase for a Stage One tuning kit for your Classic Mini. He lists:
- Air Filter.
- Inlet Manifold
- Exhaust Manifold
- Exhaust back box
- Carb Needle
As I already mentioned in the comments of his post, there are a few things to be aware of.
- Buy the best you can afford. Many vendors will supply a no-brand air filter. These are way inferior to the proper items. K&N filters are generally acknowledged as the best on the market for good reason.
- Seriously consider purchasing a decent exhaust system from someone like Maniflow. Again, there are many many generic exhaust systems on the market which just don’t perform as they should.
- Highly recommended for a rolling road session? I would have said it was mandatory. Your car just WILL NOT perform at its full potential until you have done this.
Yes, it’s going to cost money. The upside is a 15-20% performance increase. If you consider that the standard 1000cc A Series engine puts out just 38bhp then another 7bhp and more torque isn’t something to shake your head at.
Costs vary from £140 to £200 for kits and a rolling road session will be around £60 per hour. Slark Race Engineering in Salisbury, Wiltshire charge £60 p/h and Neil will normally not need that long.
